Avery has over 20 years of financial services experience including:

• Leading product management teams in core payments processing and delivering fintech solutions

• Designing innovative controls for protecting payment systems from fraud and other financial risks

• Architecting and building trading/risk management platforms for both exotic derivatives and structured securities

• Developing transaction flows in advertising, digital goods, and marketplace-style interactions

• Evaluating expansion opportunities for financial products like insurance and banking

His work has spanned every phase of delivery:

• Managing teams of product managers and risk strategists, and working with user research

• Performing data analysis and building machine-learning models for bottom and top-line activities

• Developing strategies for innovative new products

• Business modeling

• Working with third-party vendors and other partners, including pricing/contract negotiation

• Coding/delivering front-end and back-end product features in multiple development environments (PHP, Haskell, Smalltalk, Python, C/C++)

With over 3 decades of experience as an angel investor during which Avery has invested in or advised over 2 dozen startups, he is now a Venture Partner at MDSV Capital, an early-stage Silicon Valley-based venture capital fund.
